CheckMEND is a system that searches global databases containing billions of serial numbered items to ensure that electronic goods are authentic when being bought or sold. It is an industry-wide practice used in electronic recycling to protect both sellers and buyers.
All of the devices that are bought and sold through musicMagpie are checked against CheckMEND's register to ensure that they haven't been previously flagged as illegitimate.
Each time a device is analysed by CheckMEND, a number of different searches are performed on the device across numerous data sets. A device will be checked to determine whether it has been previously flagged as:
- AssetWatch - the device is still bound to a contract with the network provider
- Lost or stolen
- Network blocked or blacklisted by the network provider
- Having an insurance claim
- Having a warranty claim
- Cloned or counterfeit
A CheckMEND report is ran for each device during our Quality Assessment process.
The CheckMEND report uses a traffic light colour system (red, amber, green) to determine whether the device has passed or failed the search criteria. An example of a CheckMEND report can be seen below:
If a device is found to have a "red flag" against it during the Quality Assessment process under one of the searches listed above, we'll be unable to pay for it nor will we be able to return it*. Instead, the device will be quarantined and we'll email you with some information explaining how to remove the associated flag. You can do this by contacting CheckMEND directly from their visiting their website.
You'll have 28 days to remove the red flag and let us know once the flag has been successfully lifted. Once you've let us know the flag has been removed, we can send the device to be retested and graded as per our usual procedure, or you can request for the device to be returned back to you free of charge.
*Devices that have been flagged as "AssetWatch" can't be paid out for, but we can return it back to you. We'll let you know once the device has been dispatched back in the case of AssetWatch.
